You may have noticed that we sometimes receive white eggs instead of brown ones. From mid-October, we will no longer receive eggs from Hoeve Biesland (the brown ones with faces), but from Zwaanheuvelhoeve in Brabant. The eggs will also become more expensive, from 40 cents to 45 cents per egg. In the blog, we explain why this is happening.
Lekkernassuh has had its own organic chickens for a number of years, which are cared for by Hoeve Biesland in Delfgauw. Hoeve Biesland delivers organic eggs from these chickens to us every week. If we did not have enough eggs in a week, these were supplemented by organic eggs from Zwaanheuvelhoeve in Brabant. After 1.5-2 years, the chickens are used for soup, as they unfortunately start laying fewer eggs.
Hoeve Biesland has informed us that the 700 chickens they keep emit more nitrogen than they had budgeted for. The number of chickens will therefore be reduced from 700 to 249. This means that from mid-October onwards, we will no longer be able to obtain eggs from our Lekkernassüh chickens, as after a year and a half, the chickens are unfortunately used for soup. Hoeve Biesland intends to use the eggs from the 249 chickens it still keeps for its own sales and supplement them with eggs from Zwaanheuvelhoeve. As large quantities of eggs are involved, Zwaanheuvelhoeve is able to supply them, unlike some more local alternative suppliers.
The purchase price of the eggs at Zwaanheuvelhoeve is higher than the purchase price at Hoeve Biesland. This means that the selling price for participants will increase from 0.40 euro per egg to 0.45 euro per egg.
