On 5 October, we celebrated the 10th anniversary of Lekkernassûh, the giveaway shop and, of course, the reopening of the renovated Gymzaal! And how lucky we were! The day started with glorious sunshine, what a good start! Below is a report on the day.
PS: Do you spot the walking carrots at each location? 😉
Opening at Toverbosch
At 10am, the festive day began at location Toverbosch in Mariahoeve where the garlands were hanging ready. Breakfast had been prepared by Liselotte from the Volkskeuken. There were sandwiches, cheese, eggs, yoghurt, homemade granola and delicious apple pie and banana cake. Everyone could enjoy eating in the sunshine and there was also a small fire lit. Jan told us about the Voedselbos Mariahoeve. We could taste tasty jams and chutneys made from what grows in that forest. Hubertine gave information about the activities of KunstPost and she sold beautiful homemade soaps. The children – and adults too, of course – could make bottle rockets with Victor from the Bouwspeelplaats and shoot them afterwards (because that’s the most fun!). And the Ukulele Orchestra, an initiative of Kunstpost, brought beautiful music to their ears. It was pleasantly busy and nice to see so many happy faces!

Spinozahof
After a lovely morning at Toverbosch, we cycled on to Spinozahof near the city centre. From noon onwards, we could roll up our sleeves and bake pizzas. Together with delicious salads and other goodies, this made for a delicious healthy lunch. Turşu, the Turkish fermentation of vegetables, was a great success. Together, quite a few jars were filled, and after three weeks they could be opened to taste the delicious fermented vegetables. Haags verhaal joined in to talk together about your own ‘Thuis in Den Haag’ for the art project ‘At home in The Hague’. On a white piece of cloth, you could embroider this feeling with red thread. Wonderful stories were shared. The many embroideries will be exhibited in May 2025 in the Central Bieb during a festive event on Feeling at Home. Furthermore, Joeri from the EnergieKas came to tell more about this project and a lovely acoustic guitar performance could be enjoyed in the sunshine. It was a lovely afternoon!

De Gymzaal
At 3pm, the Gymzaal opened its doors, the place where it all began! Our food councillor Robert Barker officially opened our beautifully remodelled Voedsellokaal the Gymzaal. And how beautiful it turned out and filled with so many happy people made it even more beautiful! After this, the purple carpet was already ready for the Weggeefwinkel’s sustainable fashion show in collaboration with Extinction Rebellion. How beautiful everyone looked! Liselotte, Sebastiaan and Gerard told about the origins and history of Lekkernassûh, because a lot has happened in 10 years! Several circles were interviewed about their work in front of and behind the scenes, because running a market like this doesn’t happen by itself of course ;). The band The Outbirds provided fun party music in between the programme. And meanwhile, it already smelt delicious in the Gymzaal, as Anne Luz and Minoes from XR’s Ooievaarsbek and a group of volunteers were already hard at work in the kitchen for dinner. We had a delicious vegan and gluten-free Indian dinner with Buttertofu, Dahl, Aloe Gobi (spiced potato cauliflower dish), rice and Indian salad. Dessert was a delicious carrot pumpkin cake with nuts. What a delicious meal everyone had!

Closer at Musicon
Every great day comes to an end, but not today without toasting and dancing! Especially for Lekkernassûh, Musicon’s doors opened an hour earlier, so we could raise a toast together to 10 years of Lekkernassûh and to the opening of the new Lekkernassûh location Musicon. Rotclub provided a delicious fermented drink with which we could make the toast. Around nine o’clock, the feet could hit the dance floor for, how appropriate, the ska band The Toasters. There was wonderful dancing. What a great ending to a wonderful day!
